The 2000-2001 season was not a successful one for Austria Vienna. Christian Mayrleb, Patrik Jezek, Michael Wagner, Fernando Trojansky, and a young Paul Scharner were unable to bring their quality to the pitch, finishing only fifth in the Austrian Bundesliga.
